Ahhh, the beginning of school. I forget every year how difficult and tiring it is. It's great to have a new batch of students; like a new beginning. However, I quickly realize they have never been with me before and therefore do not know the routines and procedures that last year's class had down to a well oiled machine. Three weeks in, and I still am reviewing procedures, behavior expectations, and what to do when they're finished. But I do see the light at the end...they are beginning to do exactly as I expect, without a reminder from me. However, I know it will be six weeks before things are really running smoothly. I must remind myself each day. And that's totally ok...right?
Last week we did have a silly moment. Something made me laugh, and so the students started laughing because I was laughing. For some reason, that triggered 5 minutes of uncontrollable laughter, on the teacher and the students part! It reminded me that it is important to have silly moments and to let the students see the human side of the teacher. I get so frustrated with the beginning year stuff, but hey, they're 6. And it's only 3 weeks in. We can laugh! It was fun. And I hope they always remember that moment. I know I will.
It makes me smile. :)
