The sharpened pencil saga

Yes. Classrooms need sharpened pencils. Students need pencils ready to go.

When the lead breaks mid-sentence, students need to be able to grab a newly sharpened one.

Or they can go sharpen it in the middle of class....

but that sound is like running nuts and bolts through a coffee grinder.

Ok, a little dramatic, I know.

But my students have been on the search for pencils, so today I sat and sharpened pencils after school. I have a student job to do it, but I have run into a problem. Many, many of the pencils we have sharpen badly...they sharpen all up one side only, or grind it down to a little nub, or sharpen it only to have the lead fall right out. What happened to good, quality pencils?!

I even invested in a high-quality, super-heavy use pencil sharpener.

I did a little non-scientific test....Of all the pencils that did not fail during sharpening was.....

DIXON

You are my hero. I will forever only buy your pencils. Now, the jar is full and ready to go tomorrow. They'll all be broken and disappear before the day is over...but at least there are some for the start of the day.
